How To Get Mold Out Of Dish Drying Rack?

2026-07-30

To remove mold from a Dish Drying Rack, empty the rack, wash away surface residue, apply a material-compatible cleaning solution, scrub all joints, rinse thoroughly, and let every component dry completely.

Mold usually develops where moisture, food residue, and limited airflow remain together. Cleaning the visible marks without correcting the damp condition often allows them to return.

Separate the Components

Remove dishes, trays, utensil cups, feet, covers, and other detachable parts.

Inspect each component individually. Mold may grow beneath silicone feet, inside drain trays, around welded joints, or between the rods of a roll-up rack.

Discard severely deteriorated porous parts that cannot be cleaned fully. Deep mold inside cracked rubber, damaged foam, or degraded silicone may be difficult to remove safely.

Keep molded components away from clean dishes until cleaning is complete.

Wash Before Disinfecting

Begin with warm water and dish detergent.

Soap removes grease and food residue that can protect mold from the next cleaning step. Use a soft brush around joints and textured surfaces.

Rinse away the detergent before applying another product.

Do not combine cleaners. In particular, never mix chlorine bleach with vinegar, ammonia, alcohol, or another household chemical.

Provide ventilation and wear suitable gloves when using a stronger cleaner.

Choose a Cleaner for the Rack Material

For light mold on washable stainless steel, plastic, or silicone, mild detergent followed by a product-compatible mold cleaner may be sufficient.

Diluted white vinegar is sometimes used on washable nonporous surfaces, but it should be tested first and rinsed away thoroughly.

A diluted bleach solution may be permitted for some surfaces, but concentration and contact time should follow the product label. Bleach may discolor metal finishes, damage certain plastics, or affect silicone components.

The safest rule is to check the rack manufacturer’s instructions and the cleaner label.

Avoid steel wool on stainless steel. It may scratch the surface and leave iron particles that later create rust-colored marks.

Scrub Hidden Areas

Use a small nylon brush or toothbrush to reach:

  • Rod connections

  • Silicone joints

  • Drain holes

  • Tray corners

  • Feet

  • Cutlery holders

  • Folding points

  • Undersides of supports

Roll-up racks should be cleaned both open and partially rolled so every contact area can be reached.

For a fixed rack, turn it upside down and inspect the lower structure. Mold often remains where it is difficult to see from above.

Rinse until no cleaner, foam, or loosened residue remains.

Drying Is Part of Mold Removal

Place the components in a clean, ventilated area.

Do not reassemble the rack while water remains inside the tray or around the joints. Wipe large droplets and allow the remaining moisture to evaporate.

Direct sunlight may assist drying for some products, but prolonged exposure can fade or harden certain plastic and silicone parts.

Avoid using uncontrolled high heat. Hot-air guns, ovens, and direct flames can deform the rack or damage coatings.

When the mold odor or stain remains after repeated cleaning, replace the affected component or complete rack.

Stop Mold From Returning

The original moisture source must be corrected.

After each use:

  1. Empty dry dishes.

  2. Drain the tray.

  3. Wipe the sink rim.

  4. Remove food particles.

  5. Let the rack dry.

  6. Keep air moving around the sink.

  7. Wash the rack regularly.

  8. Do not store a roll-up rack while wet.

Check for faucet leaks or water that constantly collects behind the sink. A rack placed in a permanently damp corner will remain difficult to maintain.

Open designs that allow water to fall directly into the sink can reduce standing water when used correctly.

Reliable Export Supply for Kitchen Racks

As a Reliable Export Supplier of stainless steel dish drying racks, we provide conventional drainers, roll-up racks, drainage baskets, sink grids, bathroom racks, and related kitchen hardware.

Our roll-up models combine stainless steel rods or tubes with non-slip silicone or plastic end parts. Product dimensions, tube form, silicone color, finish, branding, and packaging can be adjusted for distributors and private-label programmes.

Our factory pays attention to smooth finishing, joint stability, drainage spacing, dimensional consistency, and protective packing. Maintenance information can also be added to retail packaging to help users prevent moisture and mold buildup.

Replace or Customize a Mold-Prone Design

Send us the existing rack photographs, target dimensions, material preference, drainage problem, order quantity, and packaging requirements.

Our team can recommend a more open structure or prepare an adjusted OEM/ODM design. Request a quotation covering samples, customized components, production, inspection, private labeling, care instructions, and export packaging.
